SMALL BUT FUN LEGO BUILDINGS

Winter Village Series
The set below, the Winter Village Cottage (Lego #10229 ), is in the "Creator" group, part of Lego's ongoing Winter Village series, and now a retired product. Others in the series are the W.V. Bakery, the W.V. Post Office, and currently the W.V. Market place. This is the only one in the series we have built, but it was fun.
See TRAINS page for more details and photos.

The Mini-Modulars: Lego set #10230
This was a fun set to build - and surprisingly challenging.
The five tiny buildings end up quite heavy, nearly solid masses of tiny bricks. We expected to knock each one off in, say, half an hour, and were surprised when we were still at it an hour and a half later. Plenty of challenge here!
And the ingenuity of the designers in reproducing the appearance of the larger Modulars, using tiny elements, is just amazing.

LEGO CAR SETS
Unlike many other Lego builders and collectors, we have chosen to collect buildings not vehicles (or Star Wars/ spacecraft, etc). We do have some vehicles, however. But they are unusual: mostly the oxcart, horseback, or horse and carriage type, or else magical cars (Flying Car) and trains (Hogwarts Express) - on the "non-city" side of our display.
Our display is purposely sectioned off to keep the "modern" Muggle world separate from our old timers and wizards. However, the occasional 20th century vehicle does creep in now and then. We must bite the bullet and deal with it as best we can.
DELOREAN SET FROM "BACK TO THE FUTURE" (LEGO # 21103)
This kit was small and irresistible. It does not fit into our theme or display anywhere - but we had to have it.
It has two mini-figs: Doc, and Marty McFly on a skateboard.
The DeLorean can be built in several diffierent configurations, with different license plates and versions of the engine.
And of course it has the unique time-travel dashboard and the all-important Flux Capacitor!
It tends to move around on our display board....

GHOSTBUSTERS AND THE ECTO-1 (LEGO #21108)
Like the Back to the Future set, this movie-themed set does not "fit" in our overall story-board plan. But it was irresistible -- a must-have.
This car is HEAVY, literally. And it is really huge! It is longer than the limo from the Palace Cinema kit. It is even longer than the fire engine from Fire Brigade, and does not even fit through the back door of Fire Brigade -- it's too wide.
I have taken the liberty to convert the rear of that firehouse to Ghostbusters HQ. On the roof are Louis Tully and Dana Barrett, in their still-human state -- and my version of Slimer.
The minifigs and all their equipment were fun (if not a little difficult) to put together. Car interior and technology are fascinating. I understand the minifigs will fit in the car but I didn't try it.
